Advert 1 Dominant, Preferred or Hegemonic Reading The  Hegemonic  Reading  for this advert would be that Reebok have used 50 Cent, a  successful and well-established  rapper, deliberately to  promote  their  brand . By doing this Reebok will have an increase of sales because of the increase in their popularity. This is because he is already a role model for his fans and has a connection with younger people- boys and girls, they will be  attracted  to buying this  brands   product. Negotiated Reading This  advert  can be viewed in many ways- such as positive and negative views. One positive view of this advert may be that the  brand- Reebok , is paying attention to a group of people who have been  marginalised  by the society. This is because black people are associated with drugs and crime. We can see in the media how black people are portrayed and eventually a  myth  is created. Many of them are  stereotyped  by the society and the nation as a whole. Additio

Semiotics: icon, index and symbol

Icons Index Symbol 2)   Icons  are very important in  media texts  because they allow the  audience  to see the  literal sign . It's the  physical resemblance  to the  signified  and is the thing that is  represented - for example in a Nike advert for trainers, the  icon  would be the  trainers  that are on sale. Additionally,  indexes  are very important in  media texts  because it provides evidence of what's being represented, so for example if there is a  fire , you would use an image of  smoke  to  signify  this. Therefore it implies another object or event. 3)  Symbols  are usually  images  that look  attractive  and catch the  eye of audiences . Global brands may try and avoid symbols in their advertising and marketing because they don't want the audiences'  focus to shift  from their products. In order to keep the audience focused on their products they need to  only  advertise and market these things by using 4) In this  media text  we ca

This advert also shows a quote, which could suggest that its about  inspiration  and aimed at  inspiring  the  younger generation. Denotation The characters face is shown to show his  dominance .- he is looking straight into the camera to  engage with the audience.  There is also an image showing fingerprints, so his  identity is revealed. Target audience I believe that this advert is aimed at  younger males- teens and youths, who are into sports.  This is because the font of the writing is  unorthodox , so its almost  rebellious . This idea relates to the younger generation. It also shows the  brand identity  "Reebok". This brand is well known. The  typography  is  serif.  This is done to show how both the  brand  and the  character  are  established  and  relevant. Colour The  colours  used in this a

Connotation The  connotations  of this advert is to promote sports and to get younger people more involved in sports and a healthy active lifestyle. The  Slogan   directly engages  with the audience, therefore showing the  brands relevance and power. Target Audience I believe that the  target audience  for this product is young teenagers. This is because of the  bright and vibrant colours  used and the style of the trainers. Additionally, the  font of the typography is san serif , therefore showing that the  brand  is  modern  and up to date. This would appeal to the  younger generation  because Nike would become  urban.  However, this product may be appealing toward people who are into to fitness or sports.
