Industries: Ownership and control

1) Media Conglomerate : Comcast Conglomerate ownership : NBC Universal-merger with Comcast and Telemundo Vertical and horizontal integration : DreamWorks, "Television, news, movies, theme parks" Synergy : DreamWorks- theme parks, such as Shrek, Fast and Furious etc. Diversification : Comcast cable- ISP, internet, video and phone provider. Cross-media regulation : Comcast-Time Warner merger is in trouble- they made a loss. 2) In my opinion, I believe that governments should prevent media conglomerates from being too dominant to a large extent . This is because they could have unhealthy and dangerous effects , the fact that the media has power to make or break political careers and have a significant amount of influence over the public. Additionally, stories can end up being biased which means that we won't have a free and function democracy. 1) Regulation is a system that monitors the way industries work. Systems of regulations are requires to provide rules and regulations to ensure that organisations operate fairly. E.g. Broadcast media (TV and Radio) are regulated by OFCOM. The media needs to be regulated to ensure that no ones privacy is invaded or they aren't advertising fake news. The media regulators are organisations that the audiences can turn to if they don't agree with something or aren't happy with something. If this is the case, media regulators must provide a set of tough consequences for media organisations that break the rules, but they do also need a balance of interests of media producers and protect freedom of expression. 2) OFCOM is responsible for regulation broadcast media such as TV and Radio. 1) Activity  I hardly play video games, but i have sometimes played violent video games, like GTA 5. I don't specifically look for violent movies to watch but if they are on and there is nothing else to watch i might watch them, but it depends on what movie it is. No, I am not violent in real life, because I know that this behaviour isn't reality and by acting in this way you could face consequences, so I can control myself. I see a lot of products advertised on TV but I don't instantly buy it, because I know that you could potentially get a better deal somewhere else. Additionally, it depends on what product they are advertising. I hardly watch any documentaries, but I see clips of some about endangered animals and animal cruelty. 1) In my opinion, I believe that the media  is responsible  for  anti-social behaviour  and  violence  to an extent. This is because the media  portrays certain texts in a way that make the audiences see the text as promoting violence and anti-social behaviour.  However, the media cannot be blamed for anti-social and violence because there are certain games which reflect this behaviour such as GTA 5. 2)  Social learning theory  is relevant in the digital age because some children could watch a  violent video on YouTube  and due to them being  vulnerable  they may start acting in this way.  I believe that young people are  exposed  to learning this type of behaviour from the media and internet because the amount of small children that watch videos on YouTube has  increased,  so they are more exploited to things which could be seen as having  harmful effects  and this is out of our control because we can't censor this. TV Diversion - TV would be watched to escape reality, such as your own problems. Allows you to indulge in situations that don't concern you, but also relax and have some time away from reality. E.g. someone may watch EastEnders to see what problems are going on in other peoples lives. Personal Relationship - TV would be watched by people to understand the problems for characters in TV programs and possibly put themselves in their situation and gain affection. E.g. Neighbours Personal Identity - TV could be used for identity as some programs may allow us to explore what we are really like or could be like. An example of this is Fresh Prince. Surveillance - TV could be watched as people may want to find out important information by watching the news on TV to see the problems going on around the world, weather or traffic updates. E.g. BBC News at 13:00 Other Broadcasts Diversion - Other broadcasts such as radio would allow you to escape reality as you would be listening

Hypodermic needle model 1)  This is a  crude theory  from the 1920s that suggests the media injects information into the audience like a  hypodermic needle  and therefore can have a dangerous effect on us.  This  theory  is supported as this article suggests that children playing video games will act violently and aggressively because they learn this behaviour playing and watching video games. 2)  This links to the  hypodermic needle  theory because the  cover-line  says that the 15 year old boy is a 'violent video game addict who rarely leaves his room'. Therefore this suggests that it links to model because the Newspaper is  influencing the audience to judge  the boy by describing him in this way. Some may criticise this front page because it only  specifies  that he behaves like this because of the video games, but the media doesn't consider any  other aspects. EBI- I would say you just need to focus on your own arguments more and use detail from texts in conjunction with theory to prove your assertions.
